Is It Bad?

Is it bad that you go into a OBGYN's office for an ultrasound and when the tech is finished, she doesn't look at you? She tells you that she's done and that you can get dressed, fiddles with her machine a bit but doesn't look you in the eye. As you're getting dressed, trying not to pick apart every movement she did, or the beeps of the ultrasound machine working, trying so hard not to obsess about the entire situation as you pull on your jeans, only to open the door of the bathroom and say goodbye. She says good bye back, but doesn't look up from her notes, doesn't return the "Have a nice day" you mumbled to her.

I've known for months that something was up and I did nothing about it. Now that I did, I'm even more petrified.

Thinking positive thoughts for you - and hoping it was the tech's issues that explains it all.

I'd say the only thing wrong is a less than professional health care professional.

Don't let your imagination go wild. I had a CT scan months after my cancer treatment where the tech wouldn't make eye contact with me when she was done - and she was very quiet. I thought I was going to throw up right then and there because I convinced myself that she must have seen something horrific on my scan. Nothing. All good. She must have been crabby or tired or hungry or mad at her boyfriend or . . .

Hang in there until you speak with your doctor. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you!

Don't panic. It probably has nothing to do with your results. Those techs do so many of those, I don't think they pay any attention to the person attached to the machine.

I'm sure you're scared but try not to read too much into her odd behavior. How long before you know something for certain?

You know, they have to be so careful not to say things that might sound like a diagnosis that they sometimes just keep quiet. It could just be her personality, but I don't think I've ever had one of the techs say anything to me, and I have stupid tests all of the time. I'm thinking of you!

Hope you don't have to wait too long for the results. Perhaps you can submit a comment regarding your experience and help future clients of that tech have a warmer experience.

I bet it never crossed her mind that you'd get an impression from her manner. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing unmanegeable.

When I got my bewb ultrasound last year (mammogram came out funky)the ultrasound tech did the same thing! I chalked it up to her being rude. My ultrasound came out fine. I hope yours does too.

Maybe she was trying to avoid conversation so she wouldn't burst into tears about something going wrong in her own life. I know I'm echoing what others have said, but some things deserve echoing. Best wishes!
