I Should Write a Book About This.

Yesterday was the first day that Hubs and I went into homes that we were interested in buying. Yes, they were all for sale- I don't want to hear snickers about going into random homes asking people if we can move in.

Anyways, we went to 2 homes. Both were in the same neighborhood. One was smaller, less money, had been on the market longer. The other had more land, was on a quieter street (we weren't even sure that it was a street until we continued down it) and a sweet porch.

Both were duds for different reasons. One big one was the pink bathroom. We've already combated the pink bathroom once, not doing it again. (Yeah, even the sunken garden tub was bright pink!)

Besides that people, please- if you are trying to make buyers purchase your home at even close to the astronomical amount you are asking, do 2 things:

A) Clean it.
B) Make sure that there's no bugs.

Next house....

Yes, clean it and no bugs! Hope you find an excellent house soon. When my family was looking at houses when I was a kid, we went into one house and the people had not flushed the toilet!! Turd alert. Guess which house my parents ended up buying?

Oh my gosh. I am TOTALLY going to go up to some random house and ask them if they are interested in selling! Why have I never thought of that? *snicker*

Oh, yeah.

When we were looking at houses, we saw some doozies. There was the house owned by the packrat who had garbage literally stacked to the ceiling in every room. The agent had to clear a path through the trash so we could walk in.

And then there was the house with the really creepy hidden room off the master bedroom with the inexplicable chains on the walls. (We are so not going there.)

But my personal favorite was billed as a "decorator special"--there were exterior shingles on all the interior walls, except for the ones that were completely covered in wallpaper murals of woods and waterfalls. I think that was to distract buyers from the fact that it was about six feet from the freeway and you couldn't open the back door without becoming one with the traffic.

Good luck on your hunt!
