"Friend" in Need.

Questions:

Say I had a "friend" who wanted to go somewhere drive-able for a weekend.

Perhaps that "friend" wanted to knit and spin for the entire time, and when not knitting or spinning, was eating, drinking, and laughing with others who were either knitting, spinning, eating, drinking or laughing too.

And, say that the "friend" wanted a yarn store or two to be close by...you know, in case she was into that sort of thing....or maybe to take a class- dyeing or intermediate spinning would be nice.

The "friend" had only a small amount of money, so ideas like Squam (I dream of doing this....someday) or Omega Institute were out, but staying at a bed and breakfast might work.

This "friend" has a few weekends open in the spring and early summer.

Any ideas??

Will this "friend" be bringing her boys along with her, or traveling alone?

I like to keep an eye on the "New England Fibah Heads" group on Ravelry for things like that - http://acadiafiberfaire.com/ looks awesome, though acadia is a trip. And oh, http://www.bakg.org/ in Danbury? Who knew!

I hesitate to self-promote sometimes, but... your "friend" really does sound like just the kind of person who would come to WOOL. I don't make any money off of the WOOL Retreat (Weekend Out On the Lake) so I don't feel to terribly bad for offering it up as an option. We don't have classes, but we do have everything else your "friend" is looking for.

* Indie vendors for that shopping experience.
* Gorgeous natural surroundings, lake and trees and serenity.
* All your meals included and fees based on your ability to pay.
* Some of the best times you'll have with other fiber gals, laughing til your face hurts.

I'll leave it at that, but if you want to learn more, let me know. This year we're going to be there from August 5th-8th, signups open on April 17th.

I'm not sure how close you are to Lake George, but I'd love to see your "friend" there!

My "friend" got distracted by work and stopped thinking about fiber trips--sorry!

Hey, are you going to spinning?

Tell your "friend" to stay tuned, I will be posting about an idea soon. If she also like to take photos of sheep & lambs while knitting & spinning etc.

Your friend should think again about going to Squam. I went last summer and it was wonderful! There were even people there who camped nearby with their families, if your "friend" wanted to make a "family" trip out of it...

I'm up for WOOL or anything that Gale comes up with- let your "friend" know. As long as she/he doesn't mind getting a few kicks under the covers. (i'm NOT THAT BAD :)
