Sniffing It Out

I swear I can sniff out yarn where ever I go, as long as it's within a 2 mile radius.

Laugh all you want, I'm not the only one who can do this.

The Boy and I went to the Big E yesterday.

Yes, I went alone. No, it didn't bother me. Yes, strangers asked where my husband was. No, no one tried to kidnap me or Jack. Any other questions?

Anyways, I was walking through Vermont (For you out-of-towners, the Big E has different houses for each of the New England states. These houses highlight just some of what each state has to offer. I overheard one lady ask where the New York house was. Um, that's another fair....)and I saw a set of spinning wheels. Then I saw yarn, and these.

AHA! Those are my new igneous rock, namely granite, buttons. Beautiful, aren't they?? Heavy as anything, but will make a cool addition to something, right?

So, as I'm purchasing the buttons I see a sign (yes, I'm of the purchase first, look around second, nature) that says "Llama" something or other. That's when I put two and two together. I asked if they had llama roving.

They did.

Now I do too.

It's *killing* me that it has to sit in my closet until I get a wheel.

Forest Canopy Shawl-Done!

Finally, I present to you...

Forest Canopy Shawl.

It was supposed to be for my mom, but since I'm new at this whole lace thing, it seemed much bigger on the needles(and I thought blocking would stretch it more). It's not going to work for her. It's too small. Which means I get to do another one! Yipee!

I think green is more her color and besides, if I have to do another project in pink I might *yack*.

Like it?

Going To The Doctor's.

The head cold from hell has turned into the hacking cough from hell. Deep, deep hell.

The Boy is at Grammie's house. It's the perfect time for me to do something that for some is torture.

I love it though.

I love going to the doctor's office.

I know, I know. It's another freaky thing about me.

My doctors (obgyn and internal) both rock. I love seeing them.

And as an added bonus, I know that I'll feel better after the visit.

I know she going to try and shove codine down my throat, but that makes me loopy and I get the Boy back today. Loopy moms make for bad moms. So, no codine (damn).

The shawl is blocking. I should have photos today of that.

But be nice to me for the next few days. I highly doubt there's going to be much knitting content to show off.

UPDATE!

I have

an ear infection (no wonder I've been feeling a little dizzy and hearing popping)
a throat infection (I figured. It feels like sandpaper.)
post nasal drip (causing the cough)
nasty cough. (Yeah, no kidding)

And now I also have drugs.

I'm going back to bed now.

**SHE'S DONE, SHE'S DONE!**

Yippee!

I have to block her. She's gorgeous now, but will be stunning after blocking.

Sienna Cardigan- Done!

Sienna Cardigan, IK, Fall 2006.

What a sweater. It was a super quick knit- just over 2 weeks and that's with doing 2 other projects at the same time. I could not get the left and right fronts to match. Not even close. You can blatantly tell that the cables are different sizes. Ugh. I think this might have turned me off from cardigans for a while.

Otherwise, it's pretty. A little "mature", if I can call it that. I love, love, love the collar. I did fewer rows than called for, because I didn't have my gauge correct and it looked HUGE!

My Forest Canopy shawl is coming along swimmingly. I took a break from it yesterday to finish Sienna, but I'm back in the groove again. If you are looking for an easy shawl pattern or even an easy lace pattern I highly suggest this pattern.

Ummm, Susan, this is how it's supposed to look, right?? (hey, go look at her blog. Imagine that being what you see every morning?? Ekkk! It's beautiful. Even with the snow!)

In true Sunflowerfairy form, I've made one noticeable mistake. I saw it after 10 rows, considered ripping back and said screw it. I know what I did wrong (kept purling all the way to the edge when I should have K the last 2 stitches) and honestly I could have attempted to rip out those last 2 stitches. But this shawl is for my Mom and I know that she's going to love it, mistake and all. I have been absolutely anal about counting stitches every even row and if I didn't do that the shawl would have been in the trash. This project has given me the basic skills I'll use when making a more difficult project- I learned how to pick up forgotten yarn overs, which I never had the balls to do before. I've always ripped back and started the row over, which is a total waste of time.

In other news, I'm still sick. I'm on the upswing though. Hubs bought me a piece of heaven the other night to make me feel better. My nose was still runny and I was still hacking away. But I was happy!

I'm Missing Everything!!

I was supposed to be going to the Knit In in NYC on Sunday. Not going.

Damn this cold.

Grrrr.

Pass me a tissue, will ya?

I Don't Feel Good.

I wish you could read my misery.

My throat is on fire.

I keep losing my balance.

I'm having a sweating/freezing cold issue.

I slept all of 3.5 hours last night.

So, can you knit lace while sick??

Yes, just very, very slowly. Check and recheck your stitches constantly. But I don't recommend it. I've been knitting a row, putting it down for 30 minutes, knitting a row, putting it down...you get the idea. It's slow going.

The pattern is from the blog- I'm Knitting As Fast As I Can. (Aren't we all? lol)It's the Forest Canopy Shawl. It's not for me, but a Christmas present.

Nerdie asked if I thought it was addicting.

I'd be lying if I said no.

At first, I thought no, but then I noticed the dishes in the sink piled high and the fact that no laundry has been done since I started swatching for this shawl.

I'm in trouble, aren't I??

Oh. My. Gawd.

I'm doin' lace.

This Should Have Been The Contest.

Do you know who this woman is??

She is one of the best authors I've ever read. Repeatedly. Her name is Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series. When she comes out with a new book I start at the first one and read until I finish the new one.

I drove 2 and a half HOURS by myself to see her. And it was worth it. She's funny and has such an infectious smile. She tells great (surprise, surprise) stories too. As I'm driving up I thought *CRAP, I should have emailed Dave! I'm so close to Boston! We could have had tea or felt up yarn or something.*

And proving how small the world is, the woman standing next to me was from a town over from me. Small, smalll world indeed.

And this is Seinna Cardigan from IK Fall 2006. All parts are done, I just need to lightly block and sew together, plus knit the neckline. Too cool.

Drumroll Please...

The winner of the 100th post contest is...

Nerdie.

I knew it. When she sent me her email I just knew she'd win. I don't know why. It's just like that.

Hubs picked the name out of all of the entries. Plus, she's the only one who got all of the answers correct. Good job, woman.

Send me your snail mail addy and I'll get them right out to you...as if you don't already have enough on your plate. lol.

Guess Who Called Me?

The manager of the arena where the Tom Petty show was.

He apologised profusely. And he says he wants to make it up to us.

And Tool just so happens to be in town soon.

Hmmmmm.

Interesting Title Goes Here.

Boring, I know. Sorry.

School starts tomorrow. I'm cranky and nervous about it. I feel like I should lay my clothes and shoes out tonight even though I don't have to be there until after 5pm.

I'm stuck on the second front side of the Sienna Cardigan. Not stuck really, I had to start it over after getting all the way up to row 37. Annoying. I figured that I can't count correctly past the number 10.

I'm a finalist for the mittens. But I'm looking over the 10 catagories and my mittens don't fit into any of them. Hummm.

Not much else is going on.

I am so proud of these. I hope I win something good. heehee. Honestly, I think I did well, although there's some really stunning and creative projects listed. Go check 'em out.

Thanks Dave Daniels and Cabin Cove Mercantile for starting this! Go check out his site(s) too.

Sienna Cardigan and Bitchin Mittens

I'm almost done with my second Bitchin Mitten. Tomorrow is the deadline. I had a bit of an issue with running out of yarn, the yarn store running out of green and the inability to find it anywhere in that color. So, I improvised.

The original mitten that I did was green with white stripes, this one is going to be white with green stripes. I hope the judges don't give me points off for it. Plus, being bath mittens you wouldn't really want to wear 2 at a time anyways. I mean, I like getting clean just as much as the next girl, but I think that's a bit overboard.

I'm also dipping the needles into IK Fall 2006.

The Sienna Cardigan will be my back to school sweater. If I finish it in time. It might be my final exam sweater, you never know. The back is done as is the right side front. Moving right along. I have all day tomorrow to knit, plus some of Tuesday to hopefully finish it. Chug, chug, chug...

What I've Been Searching For.

I've been looking for an easy lace shawl to do for my mom for Christmas. It's not easy to find, let me tell you. I didn't want to do a boring stockinette stitch triangle, but I know I'm not ready to commit myself to something intricate.

And then I see this. *DROOL*

It's one skein and it's an easy pattern with just the right amount of holey prettiness.

Hmmmm.

In knitting news I've started a sweater pattern from Interweave Knits Fall 2006. For me. Yeah, screw holiday knitting. Well, just for the next week or so. I'm finally using wool sent to me by a sweet friend in Ireland (HI HUGGY!) and it's moving along swiftly. I've never done an IK pattern before, so this should be interesting.

And in contest news I only have one person so far with 100% of the answers right (go Nerdie, I knew it would be you...lol) so keep those responses coming. You have until Midnight tonight.

Classes start next Wednesday so I won't be able to attend SnB any more or atleast for awhile. I'm bummed. They really welcomed me into their circle. I'll still be at Monday's gathering, you guys can't get rid of me that easily. lol
